Challenger Cortina, Giovanni Cimurri presents the award dedicated to Chiarino
From the clay courts of the Country Club to the red carpet in the city center. The Cortina Challenger is not just about tennis, but also about major events, like the one that took place Tuesday evening at the Hotel de la Poste. It was a special occasion to remember a great sportsman, Chiarino Cimurri, who passed away 11 years ago. He was a great friend of Cortina, as well as a top-level sports manager, both in Italy and abroad. Representing the Cimurri family, Giovanni , grandson of Chiarino and son of Giorgio , attended the evening . During the evening, four prominent figures from the world of sport were honored, executives and men who have played important roles in our world. But not necessarily in the world of tennis. Such was the case of Ernesto Colnago , who, after starting out as a cyclist in the 1950s, founded one of the world's most renowned cycling companies (the brand dates back to 1970). A company he still leads today at over 80 years of age. “I come from cycling,” Colnago said , “as does Chiarino ’s father , so I’ve known him all my life, and I know for sure that he gave so much to this sport. People like him, with a constant smile on their face, are missing in the world of sport.” Tennis is once again in the spotlight with the award reserved for Vittorio Selmi , a prominent ATP executive until a few years ago, and Gianni Milan , vice-president of the Italian Tennis Federation and a key figure in the relaunch of the movement in recent years, in Italy and the Veneto region. “ Chiarino was a person who gave so much to all Italian players, not just the top players. And for this reason, he was truly well-liked by everyone.” Rounding out the list of award winners is Matteo Mursia , a sports management powerhouse with years of experience at a giant like RCS, the company behind the historic newspaper 'La Gazzetta dello Sport'. "It's a source of pride for us to be able to remember a figure like Chiarino ," said Country Club Director and Challenger Tournament Director Andrea Mantegazza . "And doing so with figures of such high caliber is even more prestigious."
