The 26th Reggio Emilia Marathon: a record-breaking edition!

The cold didn't stop Rwandan John Hakizimana (GS Il Fiorino) from setting a new men's record of 2:12:26, ​​thus overturning the 2:12:29 held by Moroccan Lahcen Mokraji, which had stood since 2011. Hakizimana, leading from the start and accompanied until halfway by the luxury pacemaker Alessandro Giacobazzi (Aeronautica, reigning Italian champion), preceded the Franco-Moroccan Alaa Hriuoed, reigning French champion, and the first Italian, Michele Palamini (Alpinistico Vertovese).
The women's race was Italian for the 19th time out of 26 editions, thanks to the victory of Ilaria Bergaglio (Atl. Novese, 2h52'18, a new personal best).
As many as 1,400 marathon runners lined up in Piazza della Vittoria, plus 250 runners in the non-competitive “10 miles in Reggio Emilia,” the first edition with a superhero theme.
Completing the trio of races organized by the Tricolore Sport Marathon is the non-competitive 4km “Run 4 Charity Coop Alleanza 3.0,” which started at 10 a.m. from the PalaBigi. 600 participants registered, with proceeds going to 12 participating local non-profit organizations: Casina dei Bimbi, Lilt, Associazione Diabetici, Apro, Admo, Aima, Gast, Avis, Unicef, Grade, Acmt, and FunRun.
